Creating a Christmas Tree Using Paper Folding

Instructions:
Start with a square of double sided Designer Paper. This sample is made with the Holiday Thyme paper from the 2006 Holiday Mini Catalog. This square measures 3 inches.

Fold the square in half. Open it up and then fold it in half the other way. Your paper should now be divided into quarters.

Now take and fold the paper in half along the diagonal. Open it up and then fold it along the other diagonal. Now the square should be divided into 8 equal sections.

Fold the square in half again to form a rectangle. You will see a triangle made up of the folds you have created. Use these lines to fold the edges of the rectangle inside.
Once you have folded both sides of the rectangle inward, your paper should now look like this.
Take the front half and fold it in towards the center. Make sure that the point at the top is nice and crisp. You may need to use a bone folder.
Repeat with the left side and fold it towards the center also. This is the finished piece and will be one quarter of the tree.
Here is the finished card. This tree was made using 3", 2 1/2", 2" and 1 1/2 " squares. The trunk is also made from the Holiday Thyme designer paper. The tree is built from the top. Each section is slid up under the previous one.

I thought that this was almost too pretty to send someone, but would make a great focal point for a scrapbook page. The little trees were made the same way only the squares measured 3/4", 1". 1 1/4" and 1 1/2".
