Iris Folding

Instructions: You will be creating this frame on the inside of the card, so it does not matter how messy it looks. Once you finish the folding and attach the image, all of the glue and folded paper will be hidden.

For this technique, you need two 1" x 12" strips of single-sided designer paper. The double-sided patterns are a bit thick and will be bulky when folded. You also need a pattern. Click here to download the pattern.

Start by cutting out a 2 1/8" square from the colored cardstock. I did this by cutting a 2 1/8" template out of grid paper, attaching it to the cardstock with Dotto (a repositionable adhesive) and then used a hobby blade.
I attached the pattern using Dotto also, so it could easily be removed when I was finished.
Take both of the 1" x 12" designer paper strips and fold them in half. I used the scoring blade on my cutting tool to gently score them first, so they would fold easier. After folding, open them up and use a glue stick to stick the two sides together.
Use the glue stick to apply a glue all around the inside of the 2 1/8" square. Be careful not to get glue onto the pattern! Start with the section labeled 1A on the pattern. Lay a strip of designer paper so the fold is at the top and it completely covers the 1A section. Cut off the excess to use for the next sections.
Repeat this process three times using the 2A, 3A, and 4A sections of the pattern. This is the first half of the frame. Now you will use the other strip of designer paper to complete the next 4 steps.
Apply more glue over the designer paper, again making sure not to get glue on the pattern. Start with the section labeled 5B. Lay a strip of designer paper over the pattern and trim off the excess.
Repeat this process three times using the same designer paper and the sections labeled 6B, 7B and 8B on the pattern.

This is the finished frame. Again, remember this is the inside, so don't worry about the messy edges!

Once you flip the cardstock over and remove the frame, all you can see is the beautiful finished product. Now all you have to do is add the image,  some embellishments and attach to the front of  your card.
  Here is the finished project.
