Distressing Portions of Your Project

The sanding block can be used to make items like paper or buttons look old or worn. When you rub the sanding block across basic cardstock, it will gain a worn and rough appearance, but the color will not change. This is because Stampin’ Up!’s cardstock has the color consistent throughout. If you crumple the cardstock first, then when you sand, the worn appearance will not be consistent, because the sanding block will catch the edges that have been bent up more than the edges that have been bent away. When you sand any of the Designer Series Papers,             the color will actually be removed to leave a lighter color behind.

The buttons vary when you sand them. Some of the colors will be removed with sanding, but some colors only fade or appear aged. For example in my sample, the Bashful Blue button revealed white when sanded, but the Mellow Moss button only faded to a lighter shade. The Chocolate Chip button was affected very little by sanding. The surface got less glossy and smooth, but the color remained largely the same. You can experiment with the different colors of buttons to discover what they will reveal when sanded.
